Media in Costa Rica – Freedom of Speech in Costa Rica
The Freedom of speech in Costa Rica for many years has been decreasing in the media, as it has been several developments in freedom of speech of journalists. One is the murder of radio journalist Parmenio Medina was happened in the year 2001.
This case placed in Costa Rica where freedom of speech was not real from what we had always proclaimed at the international level, and this event was announced throughout the world and that several members of government were involved in this.
Costa Rica must work to implement new press laws to investigate the facts of freedom of speech and also seek a union with governments to respect the rights of individuals.
Another point of view about the media in Costa Rica is that in past elections as the media are investigating the weaknesses or failures of the candidates that makes freedom of speech decreasing, because some groups members begin to hire government journalist to start a bad management of politics.
I think the media is very important but need follow a strategy of values in society and that gradually have been losing those values which citizens believe in communication that they developing on television, newspapers and magazines.
Also freedom of speech is the most important in a democracy like ours.
